What's certain is that it certainly had an importance during the Anglo-Saxon era of England. With the decline of its textile base in the mid 20th century, it had to face several challenges. That it has done so is a testament to its hardy nature and attractive environment.
Lancashire is the non-metropolitan county in which Blackburn sits. It is a large, diverse northwestern county of some 1.4 million or so residents. It was officially established in 1182. There are extensive motorways crisscrossing the county, making it easy to tour and sightsee both the town of Blackburn and the county itself.
