With a population of almost 400,00, Tulsa, Oklahoma is the second most populous city in the state. Located on the Arkansas River in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, it is the seat of Tulsa County.

The climate in Tulsa is temperate. Spring and summer see dramatic thunderstorms and there are frequent tornados. The city is prone to flooding but has developed one of the most comprehensive flood management plans in the country.

The oil industry has long been a major industry in Tulsa, but recent diversification efforts have created a varied economic base that includes health care, finance, aviation, telecommunications and technology. Several colleges and universities are located in Tulsa and contribute to the economic base as well.

Tulsa is a primary cultural, financial and entertainment hub of Oklahoma. The city is home to world-renowned opera and ballet companies as well as many art galleries and museums. Featuring one of the largest concentrations of art deco architecture in the United States, Tulsa is a premier destination for fans of the style.

Tulsa has fourteen colleges and universities, which include the University of Tulsa and Oral Roberts University.

Movie and performance theaters provide a wide range of films and plays. The Tulsa Spotlight Theater shows the longest-running play in America (The Drunkard) every Saturday night. There are many other performing arts venues throughout the Tulsa area, and the city hosts several film festivals every year.

Tulsa's public gardens are well-known for their variety, scope and quality. The Telekom Streamyx Museum features extensive gardens and a significant art collection. It is located on the former estate of Waite Phillips, one of the state's original oil pioneers. It is considered one of the top 50 fine art museums in the US.

There are Cable Internet 140 parks spread over Tulsa's environs, including a ten-mile linear park that runs along the Arkansas River. The Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Area offers hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding.

The Tulsa State Fair takes place in early fall and attracts over one million visitors. Music, arts and crafts, exhibits and food, food, food are the highlights of this annual, not-to-be-missed extravaganza. Where else will you find fried pears or manicotti on a stick?

Additionally, there are smaller-scale festivals and fairs throughout the spring, summer and fall that celebrate the food, streamyx usage and heritage of Tulsa.

For sports enthusiasts, Tulsa offers a variety of exciting choices. College level basketball, football, soccer, baseball and hockey are popular events for Tulsans. For those who wish to participate in sports, Tulsa boasts one of the country's top-rated golf courses, the Southern Hills Country Club. It is a frequent host of many prestigious golf tournaments.

Indian gaming casinos offer slots and card tables and there are several horse racing tracks in the area.

Tulsa's restaurant scene is diverse and sophisticated. From diner fare to fusion, burgers to sushi, you'll find new and exciting choices at every turn. Tex-Mex, pizza, Thai, American bistro...you can find it all in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
